Introduction
This is a special adaptation of the database architecture module normally presented
to database administrators but customized for the benefit of developers and
technical managers. With a series of in-depth lectures students are progressively
acquainted with the internal architecture of the Oracle database, including
memory structures, data file structures, block and row internals, advanced manageability
features and more. The objective is to provide developers with the skills needed
to properly build and tune applications for optimum performance compatible with
the architecture of the Oracle database.

Audience
The target audience for this course is senior Oracle database developers. Although
these will rely upon database administrators for the day-to-day administration
of the database, their understanding of the architecture is critical. This course
will also be of interest to management and others who require an in-depth understanding
of the database architecture without a corresponding knowledge of how to perform
the actual administration tasks.

At Course Completion
At the end of this course, the student will be able to explain the:
• The enterprise-wide Oracle grid-based architecture and how this relates
to individual databases and their architecture.
• The Oracle database and other tightly integrated related technologies,
such as Oracle Net Services, Oracle Enterprise Manager and others.
• The internal architecture of an Oracle database. This includes the memory
structures, process structures and physical data structures.
• Drilling deep into the physical storage architecture of the data structures,
including
tablespaces, data files, segments, extents, partitions, blocks, and row internals.
• Database security and integrity components.
• Advanced architecture components, such as shared servers, the manageability
framework, and automatic storage management.
• Backup and recovery structures, including redo data and flashback database
technology.
