The components of TCP and their functionality:

The transport layer has two protocols:

TCP, on the other hand, provides reliable transmission through error detection, sequencing, and retransmission of damaged data. Due to this reason, USP is used when data packets are small, while TCP is used when large amounts of data are being transmitted.

The purpose of the Network layer is to organize and initiate a connection between the host and the destination for data transfer. The last layer is the Link Layer. Link layer consists of the following sublayers:

  • Physical layer
  • Logical Link Control (LLC)
  • Media Access Control (MAC)

MAC acts as an interface between different stages of data transfer and adds host and receiver addresses to the data.
