In the course of three and a half days, this IT Ops training program shows users how they can monitor and tune WebSphere Application Servers for enhanced performance.


Trainees learn about the monitoring tools and performance tuning methods that be applied to both the Java EE applications and the application server environment. These tools and methods for monitoring, tuning and load testing are applied to different WebSphere components like the general runtime environment, the application server’s Java virtual machine (JVM), JMS resources and JDBC connection pools.

Students can also opt to take the e-learning virtual version of this course (WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5 Performance Tuning (SPVC) (ZA815)), which allows them to pace themselves, and learn without the need to travel.

  • Use Apache JMeter to perform load testing

  • Use performance tuning methods on WebSphere Application Servers

  • Use the IBM Support Assistant and WebSphere to monitor application server performance

  • Monitor and tune connection pools for optimal performance

  • Monitor and tune the JVM for optimal response time and throughput

  • Apply general WebSphere runtime performance best practices

  • Tune and profile Java EE applications by using the IBM Health Center tool

  • Load-test and monitor application server clusters


This intermediate IT Ops training course is designed for administrators, independent software vendors, consultants, IBM Business Partners, and in general, anyone who is responsible for applications and projects related to WebSphere. It is also relevant for users who run the WebSphere Application Server on IBM systems and other platforms.


  • WebSphere administration skills, which can be obtained through successful completion of the IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5 or V8.5.5 administration course

  • Practical experience administering a WebSphere Application Server environment OR successful completion of the WebSphere Application Server V8.5 Administration (WA585) / (ZA585) course or WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5 Administration (WA855) / (ZA855) course
